Do you want to explore a different culture and one of the world's healthiest cuisines while learning how to prepare beautiful and healthy food? Through this course, you learn the principles of Japanese cuisine and food culture and how to prepare healthy foods to strengthen bodies and minds! Our instructor provides an interactive presentation about Japanese food, culture and nutrition using a Zoom video call, demonstrates how to make Japanese food and leads students in cooking and fun activities. Many of the ingredients can be found in a standard supermarket but we realize that obtaining all the ingredients for the recipes may be difficult during this time, so we will suggest substitutions. Students can improvise or save the recipes for a later date. The Wa-Shokuiku consists of 6 units that focus on different topics to expose students to Japanese food culture and foodways which include:
- Healthy and balanced eating
- Japanese manners and customs
- Food-related issues in local and global communities

We're excited to launch a robust weekly online version of our signature cooking classes as a LIVE, highly interactive Zoom experience. Designed to bring the best of our Kitchen into the comfort of yours, this series for ages 6+ features limited-size live classes that are full of excitement and connection with a new recipe each week. We'll master new kitchen skills from reading recipes and measuring wet/dry ingredients to knife skills for all ages as we work our way towards gaining kitchen independence. This will be the highlight of your child's week!
Participation is for children with an adult present to chaperone and assist, as needed. Siblings are welcome to cook together with multi-child registration as our recipes are scaled to make a shareable, family-sized batch. Our goal is for the kids to do as much of the cooking as they can. Depending on the recipe, we may be using knives, peelers, zesters/graters and the oven so based on your child's age, family rules, and kitchen comfort, you will be their sous-chef as needed. Otherwise, we want parents to sit back and enjoy! Prior to the start of the first class, families will receive an email that includes a link to our Parents "How To" video with five tips on how to make our online experience as easy as possible for parents, the recurring Zoom video access link, a weekly shopping and prep list along with the recipes so you can purchase what your child needs to actively participate. Most ingredients are pantry staples and/or readily available from your local grocery store.

“The team is amazing - great caregivers and very nice people. I have great confidence in them and can leave my granddaughter there without any worries. Gives us such peace of mind which is important to us. I also appreciate how well stocked the center is. There is an abundance of supplies for crafts, work and play. Please ensure the team there is recognized. We don't know how we'd manage without this service!”
